Learn self-sufficiency and problem solving skills through the process of building, repairing and
riding a bike, led by David Nam. Learn mindfulness and stress reduction through meditation
and yoga to empower young leaders, led by Ashira Lavine. Each attendee will get to keep the
bicycle they build, receive a helmet and a yoga mat with carry case.
“David’s program offers children the experience to work towards a goal, see their progress as they learn how to ride and maintain a bike, as well as the safety involved in riding on and off the road. His small volunteer group is an amazing group of patient, flexible, and energetic people who definitely want to see all kids succeed at this sport and lifelong skill.
I highly recommend that this program be a party of the DCPS Corner Stones program as it gives children and adults a chance to see their learning skills develop outside of their comfort zones and adds joy, exercise and inner personal strength for all ages.”
Choose to helpHappy, Joyous and Freewheeling is about the community helping its youth through unity and outreach. HJF is about opportunity, a chance for our youth to experience the joy that comes from owning a bike and riding, and the opportunity to train for internships and jobs! And HJF is about the freedom you feel moving under your own power!
